Dua of Musa
Bismillah arRahman arRaheem
Assalaamu Alaikum wa rahmatuLlahi wa barakatuh
This is my first post. I’m just trying to get used to this whole blog thing. I guess I’ll use this first post to explain the reason i chose this name for my blog.
Rabbishrahli Sadri means “Oh my Lord, expand for me my breast”
It comes from the dua (prayer) of the Prophet Musa (Moses) to God when he is told to go to the oppresive ruler of Egypt, known as Pharoah, or Firaun, and warn him of his actions. Pharoah was known to be very arrogant and would not accept there to be a Creator who ruled over everything. He was scared to approach Pharoah so he made this dua to his Lord. The full prayer of Moses can be read here with arabic text and meaning.
The first 4 lines of his prayer are commonly heard before many public speeches and gatherings. It is used to ask Allah to make easy a task such as giving a speech, beginning something uncertain, or even starting a meeting.
Oh my lord, expand for me my breast
Wa yassirli amri
And ease for me my task
Wahlul uqdatum millisaani
And loosen for me the knot from my tongue
Yaf qahu qawli
So that they may understand my speech.
So I figured I may as well derive the name of my first blog from this dua. As I enter the world of blogging, I am still uncertain what I would blog about. But I would like to keep it something that will provide useful knowledge to whoever may be reading this. If anyone has any requests or ideas, please do let me know.
